The new album has been postponed – Having listened back to it and played it at a couple of people i am not happy with it so have scrapped it. Start again time.
REBELLION & UNDERCOVER FESTIVAL – I will be taking a load of T Shirts to both and what I have left of the last album and a few copies of some vinyl comps i am on – I am trying to get a shorrt CD together of new songs but am rapidly running out of time so may use the Demos for the unreleased album as a Rebellion / Undercover only release – so if you are not there – you cant get one 🙂
More gigs coming up – website will be updated soon – for up to date info please go to my Facebook page
Sorry it has been a while, been busy both personally and musically – I now have a new rehearsal space which is fantastic – just pay for the electricity jobs a good un – well happy with that. The album is still being finished and now has a proper title. “Age Of Contempt” – and it will be delayed in being released, – Looking at releasing it in July now and maybe with the last download tagged onto the end of it. Reason for the late release is that I have been booked to play TWO festivals in August and September and want it ready for then – Rebellion in Blackpool which i am overjoyed at getting coz I didnt think I ever would get to play it and Undercover in Margate – Not forgetting that I am doing Blank Generation at the end of May but may be pushing it to get it done by then.
The live situation will carry on as it has as I am still working out the kinks for doing it live with backing tracks so you will have to put up with me shouting acoustically for now.
There is also a new vinyl in the offing – if anyone remembers my first proper release on vinyl was “We Are The Enemy” which was a split with Andy H – well, we are doing it again – we are releasing another very limited edition vinyl of 50 copies on clear vinyl with 2 CDs (one for each of us) and a few badges thrown in for good measure. It will be out for Halloween and the vinyl will have a Halloween based them for it – My CD (1 of the 2 ) at the moment, will contain tracks that never made it to the album, tracks, some that have only ever been released digitally or on compilations as well as a couple of other new ones – its almost going to be an album. May do another pre order on it – and those who paid for the full package last time will get both vinyl and CD (my album and The Split) because it doesnt look like the box is going to happen (i will refund if you would rather do that) – keep coming along to gigs and supporting live music and i will see you at the bar
I have been a bit busy recording the album so have been a bit quiet – the good news is that it’s nearly finished. It has the working title of “ABSOLUTION” whether this will be the final name or not reamins to be seen.
I have done things a bit differently on this as when i realeased “Past its Sell by Date” – which was essentially a bunch of demos and a few released download tracks, most people preffered the tracks done with programmed drums – so that is what i have done for the album, programmed my own drum patternes. There is 13 tracks in all including three totally new tracks I have never played live or have been on any release and a total of six that weren’t on the last release and those that were are in a totally different format. This will be my last physical release for a while and will be released as soon as i can afford to get it done. If you want to know what the track listing is then you will have to wait til it’s released – there are one or two surprises on there which I am happy about.
Onto the gigs – I will not be booking any more gigs for this year at the moment – I will consider any offers of gigs but i want to concentrate on getting the backing tracks ready to use live. When thie backing tracks are ready and I have worked out the logistics of it all, I will be booking a couple of selected gigs with full support and a headline act, it wont be me as I don’t want to headline.
I also have a new project that is being worked on at the moment. The new project has a name and will more than likely just be a recording project, more news of this at a later date.
head over to the gigs page for the updated list of booked gigs and I will see you at the bar
Pre album single release – Introducing what i have called Russ Crimewave 2.0 – basically me an acoustic and some backing tracks.
Two cover versions SUBVERT (zounds) and a Trumpified “Jackbooting in The USA” (Surgery Without Research) with two other tracks one not going on the album “You’re A Terrorist” and a non album version “This Means War”
Its a quid to download all tracks (all monies going to fund the album – both covers are free individually) and there will be a limited hand assembled CDR in a paper bag with a few things thrown in it to justify the 3.50 (free postage tho) for those that dont do digital.
I have an nexpected new release – its a pay what the fuck you want download – so if you dont want to pay just stick a zero in the box and away ya go
7 Tracks Recorded live at The Castle in Sheerness on 10th December at my mate Dean’s Surprise 50th birthday including a brand new one (Trigger Warning) , a cover of a The Warriors song (Predator) and a song only available on vinyl (Buy Consume repeat)
We had problems with the DI box and had to ditch a few songs and all of my pedals so this is the only set I have done without my beloved Chorus pedal
Recorded as a video by Tony Phipps, the video was a bit dark and quiet so i ripped the audio boosted it a fair bit, left all the mistakes in, including the very out of tune Generation iDiot, took out all of the dead space and this is the result. Enjoy
What has 2017 got to offer then – Well for a start I will be unleashing Russ Crimewave 2.0 on the world – It will not be known as Russ Crimewave 2.0, just Russ Crimewave but shows will (hopefully) be billed as a non acoustic set even tho I will be using an acoustic – confused yet?? There will also be a non acoustic album, half of which has already been recording and will contain old and new songs done with a drum and bass backing (no not D&B) – There is already a title and provisional cover art for it. I may, depending on reaction, record an E.P of cover versions that I have done live, not sure on this yet.
Gigs – I have gigs and some special ones as well (a couple TBC yet) including two festival slot at BLANK GENERATION & UNDERCOVER festivals which I am bloody chuffed to have been asked to play. I am doing a gig with one of my all time favourite bands the night before the Blank Gen festival and they will be headlining that as well. First gig of the year will be at The Harp Club in Folkestone with The Hose and others yet TBC – The giglist is updated with CONFIRMED gigs – some of them have a headliner to be confirmed, others have a support to be confirmed but I am definite
In 2017 I shall continue to be angry about the state of the world, politicians, other stupid people and numerous injustices in general and will be adding a spoken word piece to some gigs about SMART technology and other surveillance devices that are imprisoning us in our own minds – as a friend said – We are on a prison planet. Sentenced to death, suspend for life.
HAPPY NEW FEAR everyone
I am going to be as quick as i can with this so you can get to the music
I will be doing some gigs next year with backing – Still just me shouting with an acoustic guitar but with added sounds and instruments – its in its basic stage at the moment but will be ready for the new year.
This track is an old track re-done because of the highly invasive Investigatory Powers Bill which was originally the Data Retention & Investigatory Powers Act – which gave rise to the title Drip By Drip, which has now been put back in the set and will be in the Russ Crimewave 2.0 set – Enjoy – its free – if you cant download it either email from here or inbox me on my Facebollox page and i will email a copy soon as i can . Lyrics are below.
You can’t do anything without being seen Get followed everywhere you’ve ever been Tracked in the street, snooped on at home They can read everything on your mobile phone Watched in work, your life is scanned There’s an app for that, install on demand They’ve got your passwords, personal information Your banking details and current location Drip drip drip – kiss your rights goodbye You gave them up to the digital spy Drip drip drip – it’ll all become clear Nothing to hide but everything to fear Check into your home with the GPS They know where you are no need to guess They know where you go everything you do The electronic eye is spying on you They’ve got details of everyone Permission granted, damage done Sharing your life and identity The invisible threat to your liberty You opted in, you can’t opt out You ticked agree but did not read A hidden assault on your privacy A surveillance state you cannot see Recorded, filmed, sold for profit You have no choice you must comply Last Exit To Freedom But terms and conditions still apply
I woke up to a message on Sunday morning – Do I want to play a gig with Glen Matlock tonight – do I want to do a gig with an absolute legend in my hometown, five minutes from where I live – Well i was a bit worse for wear after watching a rather blinding set from Irish punk rockers the Defects and still on a “big buzz” from an amazing Killing Joke gig the night before and it just didn’t register, i went and had a cup of tea and then it hit me – fuck – its Glen “fucking” Matlock, he of the Sex Pistols & Rich Kids and one of those responsible for a very young me turning to punk music and letting it ruin my life ever since. Yes of course i was doing it – no brainer really and i would be paid too – absolutely splendid – whats the time? – ooh fuck its nearly three and all i have done all day is drink tea and fanny about online. I had to change my strings (good move) write out a longer set than usual (not a problem) rehearse said set list coz i hadn’t played a few of them in a while (bad move) went and soundchecked (good move) the stupidly went to the pub beforehand (very bad move) to settle the nerves a bit and bumped into a few people I knew, as you do in your local, told them to get along to the Ramsgate Music Hall, they wont be disappointed (I think they were)
I turned up to the gig with 40 minutes spare before i went on, I had had a few but I was OK (I wasn’t), I had only had a couple of pints, another one or two won’t hurt (it did) – I get up play the first notes and completely forgot the opening words of a song I had been doing for ages, ironically “We’ve forgotten” being the first two words of it, i stumbled thru the swiftly rehearsed following song, completely bolloxing it up and then finally settling into the set, thoroughly enjoyed it and even sold a couple of CD’s and made a couple of new fans which was nice.
Then like a tit in the dressing room i manged to spill my beer all over Glens brand new books, well one of them got it worse than the rest so i bought it (at a discounted rate of course coz it was beer damaged) apologised and made a swift exit after the obligatory selfie. Glen didn’t bat an eyelid congratulated me on a nice set and cleared the room just before he went on, doing a rather short (to my pissed head) set but it was rather good with a couple of Pistols numbers a Rich Kids song and I believe a Small Faces tune and a fair few others – Thoroughly nice fella. One to cross off the list of legends I have had the privelidge to play with, although would like a do over on this one as it is the second time I have made a tit of myself in front of Glen. The other being Borders in Brighton about 14 years ago but thats another story.
Here is the selfie with Glen and my ole mate Paul
HERE’S SOME DIY
That is the name of the compilation album that “Fit For Work” appears on
the link for the full review is here
I apprear on this 3 times as myself, on guiitar with DeKadanCe and bass with Surgery Without Research – If you dont want to read the whole thing which is highly encouraged as it is a cracker of a review – here are the review bits of all 3 tracks
Russ Crimewave donates one of the best songs of the entire collection with the gruff and raucous one man pulse ‘Fit For Work’. An antagonised masterpiece of raw, off the street musicianship that speaks to many folk who are at the brunt of the governments cold-hearted approach. Of course the bending fiddlers of those free fruits need a thumping but our artiste is concerned with those that are truly suffering and being told to get up and do that which they are not capable of. A searing piece this, a real miffed construction and a stand-out cutlet from a lengthy bout of absolute quality.
… the following westernised wank off of ‘What About You’ by DeKadence are a great couple of bedfellows with this latter song acoustically distorted and somewhat cavernously haunted and throwing the CD into new rhythmic realm. Folky and fucked this is a nice place to visit and keeps us alert as to what may come next
Surgery Without Research
Surgery Without Research plough on with a street based roughness, clout back with common people’s coarseness and bring to the table raw and ready silage from a sewer of discontent. Lacking frills, this open wound called ‘Pig Government’ bleeds threat and no matter how unprocessed it is, the fact remains that stuff like this is the backbone of a scene sometimes too pretentious for its own good.
As some of you know I play in various different bands and a duo – As it is easier to keep track of all the gigs in one place, any gig done by DeKadanCe, Surgery Without Research or Drugrat will also be on the gig listing – I wont be listing any of the other bands playing just that we are playing so a SWR gig will just say SURGERY WITHOUT RESEARCH gig – it will give you details of where but not who else is playing.
Sales of the new CD were going spectacularly well when the “secure transaction” function ceased to work coz the bloody cerificate had run out and when do I find this out – 5 days later when someone tells me – loads of site vistors but zero sales – couldnt work it out.
I have now got it running again (thanks technical help for once you were very helpful) so apologies if you were one of the people who tried and failed to get a CD or download. Everything should be working again.
New spoken word page put up – See the link in the bar – Not a lot there at the moment as I havent done much spoken word but I aim to change that very soon – New things in the pipeline.
